Early Childhood - Preschool

The St. Genevieve preschool team are anticipating an exciting year! Our preschool students are active learners at St. Genevieve. In the classroom, they listen to stories, investigate living and non-living things, and explore the English language as they prepare to read. In addition, preschool students school day is enhanced by attending art, library, technology and physical education classes, as well as attending weekly Mass with their buddies.

  • Open to students age 3 - 4 (Birthday must be before September 1st)

  • Full day program: 8:00 AM - 3:05 PM

  • Participate in all school specials: Art, Library, Technology and Physical Education

  • Smart Board & iPads incorporated into classroom activities

Mission & Curriculum

Preschool is such a special time and a blessing to share with our students.  School is a new adventure and students will learn, grow and make new friends!  Together with their peers, students will development socially, emotionally, spiritually and academically.

Throughout our two-year Early Education program, students will...

  • Learn Reading, Math, & Science

  • Recognize the letters of the alphabet, sound out new words, and even write their name

  • Count, recognize numbers, identify shapes, and construct simple patters

  • Identify plants and animals and explore the world around us

  • Play - One of the most important parts of our day! Our classroom has a play kitchen, dress-up clothes, puppet theater, and sensory table

  • Enjoy Specials - All School Masses, Art, Library, Technology and Physical Education and Buddy Time with our Junior High Class

  • Explore Technology - our current preschoolers love using our iPads and new Vibe Board

​​St. Genevieve firmly believes that we learn some of life’s most important lessons as preschoolers.  In our two-year Early Education program, students can expect to learn about friendship, kindness, compassion, sharing, empathy, independence, teamwork, honesty, courage, creativity, adventure, problem solving and much more.

Kindergarten

Kindergarten students at St. Genevieve learn to read! Students become more familiar with letter sounds and combine sounds to begin reading. By participating in Accelerated Reader, our students are read to on a daily basis and take quizzes to monitor their comprehension of stories. They also learn to write stories, skip count, and add and subtract. In addition, they attend physical education, art, music, and library classes weekly.

1st Grade

In first grade students learn to care for each other and God's creation. By incorporating Accelerated Reader and guided reading into daily instruction, our first grade students make tremendous gains in their reading level. In addition, first grade students learn to be more independent as they begin to read independently.

2nd Grade

Second grade is an important year for our students as they receive two holy sacraments, the sacrament of Reconciliation and the sacrament of Holy Communion. Our students prepare for these sacraments in daily religion class.

3rd Grade

Students in 3rd grade quickly transition from learning to read to reading to learn as they navigate more complicated texts. Students dive deeper into the sciences as they study life cycles of plants. In the social sciences, students learn the fundamentals of geography and increase their awareness of the local and global communities in which they live. Students also master basic addition and subtraction and move on to learning basic multiplication and addition.

4th Grade

In fourth grade, students are learning and discovering in different ways each and every day. For math, they are starting to master basic multiplication and division facts, as well as reinforcing other measurement, geometry, and fraction skills. Fourth graders are learning to love reading, and using that to improve upon their AR scores. Students are taking a closer look at science topics such as animals and plants in different ecosystems, rocks and landforms, as well as motion, force, and energy. In addition to every day religion classes, an emphasis of our Catholic faith is built in to every subject area.

5th Grade

Fifth grade is the students’ last year in elementary school, so community building, responsibility, and leadership are important aspects of day-to-day life in the classroom. Questioning and inquiry about the world is emphasized and encouraged.  In math, the focus is on exploring decimal and fraction operations, with an emphasis on gaining a deeper understanding in these topics. They use Accelerated Reader along with novels to enhance literacy skills. American history, starting with explorers and colonization and ending right before the Civil War, is the topic of study in social studies. Fifth-graders delve into organisms, habitats and electricity and magnetism in science

Junior High (6th-8th)
Reading & Religion

Reading and religion are taught to grades 6, 7, and 8. These subjects prepare our Jr. High students to receive the sacrament of Confirmation in 8th grade. In addition, we guide our 8th graders through their service project as they perform various service tasks to earn letters on their graduation ribbons.

Social Studies & Writing

6th, 7th, and 8th grade students will participate in our new Civics Program! All students are encouraged to incorporate outside resources allowing students to make real world connections. Students work collaboratively with the science teacher to guide 7th and 8th grade students through developing research papers.

Physical Education & Health

In P.E. students can expect to learn athletic skills, fitness knowledge, develop teamwork abilities, participate in team sports, all while increasing their physical activity and improving their physical literacy. Once a month, we will also be having discussions about health-specific topics to give students a broad understanding about movement, nutrition, and overall physical & mental health.

 

Primary grade students will work on integrating movement principles with athletic skills to improve their physically creative abilities that can be applied both on the field and in the classroom!

​

In middle school, students will continue to improve their athletic and physical capabilities through individual as well as small-sided games, while discussing basic health principles.

​

Jr. High students will continue their growth in teamwork and cooperation through small-sided games while also building their health and fitness knowledge to build their physical literacy for the world outside the gym.

Specials

Our school offers a wide range of academic programs and extracurricular activities to ensure that each child is challenged and engaged. Our students have the opportunity to participate in specialized programs such as music, art, STEM, and soccer.
